The youth Development Network Trust has conducted a research on the status and role of youth NGOs in democratic South Africa. This is just one of the many studies that have been conducted by the organisation on youth development issues both in and outside South Africa.
This study, which was presented at the National Youth NGOs conference in Benoni and adopted by the Youth NGOs as a true reflection of what is happening in their organisations, covered all the nine provinces of South Africa and had the following objectives:

• To assess the factors that are weakening youth development non-governmental organisations in South Africa
• To determine the roles that are still appropriate for youth development non-governmental organisations in South Africa
• To determine possible methods toward strengthening youth development non-governmental organisations in South Africa
• To assess the relationships between youth non-governmental organisations, government and donor community; and
• To identify and make recommendations for the strengthening of the youth non-governmental sector
