Publications of The Youth Development Network

The YDN is constantly publishing new information to help inform Youth Workers around South Africa. This includes Youth Development Journals and informative reports from the Youth Employment Summit. We have divided this information into easy to view categories. Please select the category you would like to view:

Celebrating Young People
Because of the growing concerns about media coverage around youth, the YDN has embarked on a number of activities to advocate for young people and to highlight the contribution that they have made in this country. The Celebrating Young People event is one way of addressing the challenges facing young people. The event serves as a platform where successes and achievements of these young people are brought in the spotlight.

As part of it advocacy strategy to reverse the negative images about young people, the YDN has decided to hold an event of this nature on an annual basis.

Members Conference Report
The Youth Development Network (YDN) hosted its first ever members conference at the Indaba Hotel from 4-7 November 2002. The conference saw, for the first time since its inception in 1998, members of the network come together under the theme “Learning Together to Positively Impact the Lives of Young People.” The conference was premised on two sub themes. “Trends in the NGO World” and ‘Youth, Poverty and Unemployment” and provided members with the opportunity to learn from each other, share important lessons from the field and examine trends facing youth development.

Newsletters
The YDN newsletter is set to increase knowledge of programmes and work of the YDN member organisations and the National office. It is a tool through which learning and information sharing amongst member organisations and the YDN national office will be stimulated.

.
Occasional Publications
The Youth Development Network was formed in an effort to explore ways of increasing the impact of youth development programmes, sharing information and best practices amongst the member organisations, as well as advocating for the interests of young people. The YDN occasional publications are the result of the YDN's efforts to keep the youth sector abreast with issues and approaches that relate to youth development.

Youth Development Journals
The purpose of the Youth Development Journal is to stimulate interaction between youth development workers and policy makers. throughout the country. The Journal also serves as a forum for discussions and debate on issues relating to youth development in South Africa as well a valuable resource for all those interested in youth development.

Youth Employment
In March 2003, the Youth Development Network hosted a two-day conference to raise the awareness of Integrated Youth Development (IYD) in South Africa. This booklet summarizes the perspectives and knowledge that we shared at the conference. It intends to stimulate further dialogue, co-operation and integration between the diverse organisations that help young people develop. It also aims to encourage the youth development sector to intensify its efforts in advocating for Integrated Youth Development.

.
Youth Partners Forum
The Youth Partners Forum is not intended to be a forum for the solicitation of funds. Rather, its intention is to provide a space to develop an understanding of the needs and visions of both youth workers and donors; to discuss how a more effective dialogue can be maintained between donors and youth workers; and to define and explore some of the major issues and challenges facing the sector.
