Our Vision: To be a leading contributor towards the attainment of an economically self-sufficient society through the provision of quality, customised enterprise education programmes to the learners (youth, students and unemployed). Our commitment to this vision will be met by the focused efforts of highly motivated and professional teams.
Our Mission: To provide enterprise education and business training to the learners (youth, students and unemployed) to encourage a spirit of enterprise and the establishment and development of sustainable businesses.
Our Objectives: Enterprise Dynamics Programme (EDP)
Since 1995 the Enterprise Dynamics Programme has trained educators in the teaching of economic literacy to young people.
The programme has four modules:
Our community introduces learners to:
- A simplified account of the economy at the level of the family and community;
- The concept of money as a medium of exchange;
- Meeting basic needs, budgeting, the relationship between lifestyle and expenditure; and
- Key socio-economic features of rural, suburban and urban communities.
Enterprise Island introduces learners to:
- A model of a economic community comprised of diverse niches;
- Analysis of opportunities, challenges, and solutions in different niches;
- Identification of investment opportunities at local and provincial level.
What’s Business? introduces learners to:
- The study of business - from market research, pricing and costing to production planning and control and customer service;
Opportunities out There introduces learners to:
- A survey of opportunities ready to be exploitated;
- Information on preparing for job-seeking, including how to handle interviews and developing a relevant and concise CV;
- Life outside of formal school.
The Mini-enterprise Programme
The Mini-enterprise Programme encourages senior secondary students to develop an idea for a small manufacturing business and then provides business and related life skills training in order for them to implement it.
The 11-week course involves between 35 and 50 learners from Grades 10,11 and12. With theoretical input and mentoring, learners set up and actively manage a mini-company of their choice. Leaners who have completed the course can write the International Enterprise Education exam conducted by Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. Learners can also participate in the advanced version of Mini-enterprise (The Globe Programme), which focuses on export and import production, in collaboration with mini companies in other countries.
Business Establishment and Sustainability Programme (BESP)
The initial business skills training lasts 10 days, after which the participants set up small co-operatives. JASA assists these co-operatives in developing business plans and other formal documentation needed to apply for financial assistance from the various partner-lending institutions identified by JASA. Regular counselling and mentoring visits are carried out for up to 12 months. A walk-in client support service is also provided by JASA. The BESP is registered with the Department of Trade and Industry as a Business Service Centre.
Our Geographical Scope: Offices based in Gauteng, but programmes are offered nationally.
